America is a gastronomic melting pot that proudly celebrates diverse cultures through authentic food offerings and unique culinary experiences. If you’re not yet a foodie, be ready to become one, as Steve tells us all about the most incredible places to go in America for authentic dishes and unique tastes!
Delectably Cuban
Let’s start this journey on the Southern-East with the ever-popular Cuban flavors of Florida. If you’re unfamiliar with this food heritage, you’ll be delighted to hear that they’re more than just those mouthwatering Cuban sandwiches. Cuban cuisine is most popular for its Sofrito flavors, a thick savory paste of garlic, green pepper, onion, oregano, ground pepper, tomatoes/carrots, and olive oil. Meats, stews, sauces, and sauteed vegetables are often cooked in low flame with this paste to give them that traditional , herby taste. Miami is brimming with authentic Cuban restaurants, and if you ever get to stop by one, go for a Ropa Vieja or Gambas order with a citrusy wine, like Sauvignon Blanc, on the side.
Soulful Middle-Eastern
If you’re into highly aromatic dishes, Middle-Eastern dishes take the high chair. Strong, herby flavors injected into plant protein-based meals and dips have become a staple in most vegetarian and vegan households, and we’re rooting for their increasing popularity! While Falafels, Shakshukas, Baba Ghanoush, and Kebabs dominate the industry’s must-try lists, we suggest asking the chef for these specific flavors for a more in depth experience: Ras el hanout, Za’atar, Harissa, Baharat, and Zhug. Great Middle Eastern restaurants exist throughout the United States. If you want an initial suggestion, try heading out to Michigan where you can find the famous Al Tayeb and many other authentic and incredible Middle Eastern restaurants! Enjoy all these more with a side of Chardonnay or Zinfandel, and you’ll have the perfect dinner to cap off the night.
